Introduction of the City The
City:
Qingdao is a beautiful coastal city that lies at the
southern tip to Shandong Peninsula. Located in Jiaozhou
Bay facing the Yellow Sea, Qingdao is also a well-known
holiday resort in China.
The city has seven urban districts and five county level
cities under its jurisdiction with an area of 10,645 square
kilometers and a population of 6.84million. The annual
average temperature is 12.2≧.

| Before it was garrisoned by the
troops of imperial court of Qing in 1891, Qingdao
had been a small fishing village. It became a German
concession in 1897 and was occupied by Japan in
1914. The city reverted to Chinese rule in 1922,
but was occupied by Japan again during the Second
World War. Today it is one of the most important
open coastal cities and one of the independent cities
with state planning and budgeting powers. It has
provincial power in economic management. Its major
industries include trade, light industry, tourism
and oceanography research. |

2、Scenic Spot in Qingdao
City
Zhanqiao Pier:
Zhanqiao Pier, built in 1891 and located in Qingdao
Bay, is regarded as the symbol of Qingdao. At the southern
end of the 440-meter-loing pier, is a typical Chinese
octagonal pavilion called Huilan Pavilion from which you
can watch the rolling waves of the sea. At the northern
end is a seashore park with a flower garden, a perfect
place to enjoy the sea and relax. Xiaoqingdao
Isle:
Xiaoqingdao Isle, which has an area of 0.012 square
kilometers, lies off Qingdao Bay. The white lighthouse
on the isle is 15.5 meters high. Its light reflected on
the sea makes quite a spectacle at night, known as Floating
Light of the Isle. Luxun
Park:
Built in 1929,Luxun Park is located on the shore of
the Huiquan Bay. It got its present name in 1950 in memory
of the distinguished Chinese modern writer Lu Xun. The
park is a perfect combination of traditional Chinese gardening
art and natural beauty. Xiaoyushan
Hill Park:
Xiaoyushan Hill Park, located on Xiaoyushan Hill at
the eastern end of Laiyang Road, is the first classic
hill park of the city with an area of 2.5 hectares. From
the 18-metre-high, 3-storey octagonal pavilion tourists
can have a bird¨s eye view of the city: the red roof-tiles,
the green trees, the blue sea and the azure sky. Big mural
paintings and beautiful legendary stories give tourists
much imagination. Bathing
Beaches:
Qingdao boasts many fine sand beaches along its long
winding coast. There are altogether seven beaches in the
urban area. Number One Bathing Beach, also called Huiquan
Bathing Beach, is 800 meters long and is equipped with
shark-proof nets and all the necessary facilities. Number
Two Bathing Beach in the Badaguan Scenic Area used to
be popular with political figures, such as Chairman Mao
and other central government officials. Number Three Bathing
Beach of 400 meters long is located on the east end of
Taiping Cape near the convalescent area. Number Six Bathing
Beach, also called Zhanqiao Bathing Beach, is close to
the city center. The bathing beach at the Shilaoren National
Holiday Resort is 2,600 meters long. Botanical
Park:
First built in 1976, the Botanical park is located at
the southern foot of Taipingshan Hill. It covers an area
of 1,500 Mu with more than 1,000 specieses of plants.
This park has multiple purposes of science, entertainment
and relaxation. The Christian
Church:
This castle-style church, built in 1910, is made up
of a bell tower and an auditorium which has a seating
capacity of 1,000. The
Catholic Church:
Saint email Church built by the Germans in 1934,with
an area of 2.470squaremeters. This grand building, which
is 60 meters tall, has become an important landmark of
Qingdao. Zhanshan Temple:
Situated at the foot of Zhanshan Hill and to the east
of Taiping Hill, this temple was built in 1945. It has
five halls and a pagoda, with an area of 20,000 square
meters. The temple boasts a large collection of skillfully
carved statues of Buddha and Buddhist scriptures. There
are ten thousands of people at Zhanshan Temple from 8th
to 10th in April on the lunar calender every year.
Tianhou Palace:
Tianhou Palace, one called Tianfei Palace and now
known as ^Chinese Great Temple ̄, is the only well-preserved
ancient building before Qingdao was occupied by Germans
and is the one with the longest history in the urban
area. It was first built in the Ming Dynasty, now serves
as Qingdao Folk Custom Museum.
Guest House:
Built in 1906 and covering an area of 4,000 square
meters, this 30-meter-high four-storied building of
typical German Castle style is situated in Xinhaoshan
Hill Park. Once being the German governor`s residence,
it is also called ^the Governor`s Building ̄. It used
to popular with political figures such as Chairman Mao.
Government House:
Situated along the coast, facing the bay at the foot
of Guanhai Hill, this building was built in 1903 with
a style of European public construction in the 19th
century. It used to be the seat of Qingdao Municipal
Government after the liberation of Qingdao in 1949 until
the government moved to the ease. Therefore, people
call it ^the Old City Hall ̄.

Badaguan:
Badaguan (Eight Passes) is named after the eight passes
of the Great Wall. Located in the city center, the passes
are planted with trees of various blooms blossoming in
different seasons, such as peaches, crabapples, pine-trees
and ginkgoes. This area is known for its many villas,
which is with more than 200 western architectures in different
styles, it is also called the Architecture Museum.

Signal Hill Park:

Signal Hill lies in the center of Shinan District. Its
name is from the former signal guiding platform on it.
The rotating sightseeing hall provides a bird's eye view
of the beautiful city. The three red mushroom-shaped buildings
indicate China's three torches for sending signals. In
this park, tourists can appreciate the quiet gardens,
relax in the hexagonal pavilion and enjoy typical Chinese
dishes offered by the two restaurants facing the sea.

Zhongshan Park:
Zhongshan Park, located on the picturesque Huiquan Bay,
is the largest park in the city, which covers an area
of 800 thousand square meters. It consists of the oriental
cherry path, Chinese peony gardens, the sweet-scented
osmanthus garden and other precious plant gardens. It
was given its present name in 1929 in memory of Dr. SunYat-sen.
Huiquan Square:
Built in 1992, this square is situated in the middle
of Wendeng Road, with an area of 13.43 hectares. The
southern square has a large music fountain of 100 meters
long and 30 meters wide, which was built to celebrate
the 100th anniversary of the city. A 36.5-meter-high
sculpture made of steel and glass symbolizes 365 days
in a year.
Baihua Park of Famous Scholar's Statues:
Situated on Qingdao Hill and facing the mini West
Lake in Zhongshan Park, this park covers an area of
8.25 hectares with 20 statues of the late Qingdao scholars
and those who once lived in Qingdao. There are ten scenic
spots, which are the combination of natural and human
landscapes, as well as one of the educational bases
of patriotism in Qingdao.
The Sculpture Street of Chinese
Civilization:
This street starts from the Taipingjiao and Badaguan
scenic spot in the west and ends at Children National
Holiday Resort in the east. Fifteen statue parks along
the coastline reflect the inside contents of Qingdao
as a historical and cultural city.
